Stacy’s Incredible Comeback Journey

Life is full of ups, downs, twists, and turns and Stacy's journey proves that your past doesn’t have to define your future.

Stacy’s Story in Her Own Words

"Life sure is full of ups, downs, twists, and turns. I have been on a weight-loss journey that seems to have been going on since the beginning of time! I gained weight because I turned to food to soothe myself and as a way to escape. At my heaviest, I was 333 lbs, and unhappy."

When Stacy first started addressing her weight, it was because someone on Facebook reached out and invited her into a fitness group. She took steps, lost some weight, and found a tribe. But life took a heartbreaking turn:

"Then, in the middle of that, my sister passed away. She was young and still had her life ahead of her. The reason she passed away was complications from diabetes, basically not taking care of herself."

After losing her sister, Stacy ran and walked two 5Ks, but grief led her back to emotional eating. Her fitness progress unraveled again, and she found herself stuck once more.

The Turning Point

In 2020, Stacy faced a critical wake-up call:

"I was diagnosed with diabetes, and my A1C was greater than 14 with blood sugars regularly higher than 400. It scared the life out of me!"

Medication initially helped control her diabetes, but her health issues multiplied, kidney disease (proteinuria), high blood pressure, high cholesterol, depression.

By January 2023, financial stress and medication costs meant she had to discontinue Ozempic, and her blood sugars spiraled out of control again. It seemed hopeless:

"At that time, I thought all was lost. I knew insulin was next, and I was terrified."

The Comeback

But Stacy didn't give up. She started to meal prep and changed her eating habits, joined a fitness challenge, and started exploring healthier relationships.

Through new connections, she met Carl, who opened her eyes to the importance of balancing nutrition and building muscle:

"I saw Carl's post about GLP-1 medications causing muscle loss. I reached out and began meeting regularly. In three months, I gained muscle and lost body fat!"

The results spoke loudly:

‍Embracing the Challenge

Stacy didn’t stop there. She stepped outside her comfort zone and joined CrossFit Essentials at Cerberus:

"I made it through my second week of CrossFit Essentials! I was nervous, but it’s exactly what I needed."

Today, she’s training for a half marathon and excited to live a healthier life.

Stacy’s Message to You

"I know life will always have highs and lows, but this week showed me what's possible. Huge thanks to everyone supporting me, especially Carl, for teaching me how to use carbs, proteins, and fats to work for my body instead of against it."

long and vulnerable post ahead*

Life sure is full of ups, downs, twists and turns.

I have been on a weight loss journey that seems to have been going on since the beginning of time! I gained weight because I turned to food to soothe myself and a way to escape.

At my heaviest I was 333lbs, and unhappy.

I remember meeting a person on Facebook asking me to join a fitness group, so I went down that path lost some weight and found a tribe of people.

Then in the middle of that my sister passed away, she was young and still had her life ahead of her. The reason she passed away was because of complications from diabetes. Basically not taking care of herself.

I ran/walked two 5ks in 2018 after she passed, then fell into a rabbit hole of eating again got off my fitness journey.

2020 came and I was diagnosed with diabetes and my A1C was greater than 14 and some of my normal blood sugars were higher than 400! I was going down a dangerous path! Let me tell you it scared the shit out of me!

My Dr put me on medication to get my blood sugars under control and finally we were on the downward trend with my blood sugars. I was taking an everyday shot, then she put me on Ozempic and I lost weight to 255, but I wasn’t exercising or anything.

My diabetes was under control and I was also diagnosed with Proteinuria a Kidney Disease where there is too much output of protein.

My medication list was rapidly growing! High blood Pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, kidney disease, depression.

January of 2023 my insurance changed and Ozempic co pay was out of reach for me and I had to choose which medications I could afford and we went off Ozempic and my blood sugars got out of control slowly and eventually my A1C climbed to an 8.

At that time I thought all was lost and just knew that because of cost effectiveness that insulin was my next step.

It wasn’t I got another pill to take and that seemed to help. Until it didn’t and we were going to increase it to the max dose and I research the original shot I was on and found I could afford that so got back on that.

Then I started having low blood sugar and that was scary in itself.

I started a fitness group in the beginning of this year Kitchen Wars, and I started to get back to meal prepping and eating a different way.

I started to date and met someone and they introduced me to Carl and I was put in a Facebook group.

I went to my Dr for my physical we talked about my low blood sugars and we went off that pill and I asked her about Mounjaro. She prescribed it. As Leary as I was about getting on it. I knew for my health I needed something!

I know there is a lot of stigma out there about taking the shot, but for me it was about gaining my life back!

Then I saw a post from Carl about the effects of GLP1 medications and muscle loss.

I reached out to him and started meeting with him on a regular basis. I have gained muscle in the last 3 months and lost body fat!

My major wins this week when I went to my Dr was I was taken off my blood pressure medication as it was controlled! I was taken off of Metformin as my blood sugars are regulated (I still take Mounjaro and Farxiga).

My protein results were 234 and jn April they were 654, still high but the lowest they have been since my diagnosis!!

I found some measurements from last year and measured myself just for curiosity and I have lost 10inches.

I stepped out of my comfort zone and started a CrossFit essentials class last week and made it through my second week last night!

I know that life is always going to be full of highs and lows but this week was amazing!!

I just can’t thank everyone enough that supports me on this journey it’s definitely one that isn’t finished I have a long ways to go!

I have goals.. training for a half marathon:) excited to live life and get healthier.

I can’t thank Carl enough for showing me how carbs, proteins and fat all work together to help the body work for you and not against you!l
